Answer
If you work in the Netherlands, there’s a good chance you can get tax back from the government, even if you work through a temporary agency like HOBIJ. If you’re registered at the municipality through a BRP registration (Personal Records Database), you’re required to file a tax return. But even with a temporary address through an RNI registration (Non-residents Records Database), it’s still a good idea to do it.
Why? Through your salary slip you could be automatically paying too much tax, and that money you can get back. Sometimes even hundreds of euros! Filing a tax return isn’t always easy. The forms are complicated, often in Dutch, and can be hard to understand. Tax advisors can help but that could be expensive.
At Information Point Zuidoost-Brabant they’ll help you for free. They’ll explain calmly in your own language. And if you’d like, they can do it together with you. They can even call the Tax Authority to help you with difficult cases.
