Answer
Do you have children and work in the Netherlands? Then you might be entitled to financial support in the form of the child-related budget or childcare allowance. But what’s the difference between the two?
The child-related budget is a general monthly financial contribution for families. You can even receive it if your child lives in your home country, as long as you work in the Netherlands. Childcare allowance is only for parents whose children attend registered childcare in the Netherlands.
Many EU citizens don’t know they are entitled to this, but mistakes can also happen when applying. For example, by entering incorrect information or misunderstanding your residency status. And then you might have to pay everything back later.
You apply for these allowances online with your DigiD via the Dutch Tax Office. Is it not working, or are you unsure if you’re eligible? At Information Point Zuidoost-Brabant, they can help you. For free and in your language. Visit the Inwonersplein in Eindhoven city hall.
