Answer
If you work or live in the Netherlands, you need to be registered. You do this in the BRP (Personal Records Database) if you stay longer than 4 months in the Netherlands. Or through the RNI (Non-residents Records Database) if you stay for less than 4 months. This way, you get a Citizen Service Number (BSN). Without a BSN, you can’t work, receive a salary, get health insurance, or apply for benefits.
For a BRP registration, you need a rental contract in your name. For RNI registration, you can use a temporary address, like one from an agency, AirBnB, or hotel. Do you move often? Don’t forget to update your address with the municipality or the RNI desk. This way, you can avoid fines, missed mail or issues with benefits.
HOBIJ will help you register to get your BSN number. Do you need more information or do you want to get in touch with an independent party? Reach out to Information Point Noordoost-Brabant. You can find them at city hall in Eindhoven.
